My Diary

I thought about my younger self on the train

Dear Delyara, I was on the train today watching my reflection in the dark glass and suddenly thought about who I used to imagine I would become by this age. Not in a dramatic crisis way. Just a quiet ache. I don’t even think I’m doing badly. That’s what makes it harder to explain. My life is not a disaster. I’m functioning. Working. Continuing. But there’s still that tender gap sometimes between the life I expected and the life I inhabit now. I think the sadness of adulthood is not always failure. Sometimes it’s just discrepancy.
