I told my manager before anxiety made me disappear from work

Dear Delyara, The last time anxiety became severe, I called in sick repeatedly with stomach bugs until I eventually stopped answering work altogether. I was ashamed and nearly lost my job. Therapy helped me create a plan for recurrence. This month, when panic attacks began returning, I told my manager early. I asked for temporary remote days, shorter presentations, and one afternoon for a medical appointment. I expected judgment. She said, “Thank you for telling me before it became impossible.” Today, I completed my first full week using the adjustments. I still had anxiety. I did not vanish. Mental-health progress was not proving I could work as though nothing was happening. It was staying visible while asking work to make enough room for what was happening.
