I told the doctor the whole truth this time
Dear Delyara, I have been lying politely for months. Not full lies. Just reduced truths. “Just tired.” “A bit stressed.” “Probably hormones.” “Busy week.” Those are the phrases I keep handing over because they sound reasonable and adult and not too needy. This week I stopped doing that. I told the doctor the actual truth. That the fatigue is changing my evenings. That some days I feel half-present inside my own life. That my patience is shorter. That noise hurts more. That I am worried about how often I feel detached but still fully functional from the outside. That I am frightened by how normal I have made it all sound. The appointment changed immediately. Not because a miracle happened. Because honest information creates honest care. I left with referrals, blood tests, and a feeling I had not had in a while — the feeling that maybe I am not weak, lazy, dramatic, or failing. Maybe I am simply unwell and worthy of being taken seriously before I completely collapse. That matters more than I can explain.
