My Diary

I Took My Bra Off Before I Took Dinner Off the Stove

Dear Delyara, I was stirring the pan with one hand and unclasping the bra with the other because by that point the pressure of fabric on skin had become one thing too many. It was not elegant. It was not planned. It was survival in a kitchen. And the relief was instant. Women carry so much low-level discomfort quietly that when it leaves, even for one minute, it feels like being returned to yourself. That was me tonight. Cooking, tired, unglamorous, relieved. Sometimes freedom is ridiculously small. And still, it matters.
