I Took My Bra Off Before I Took the Earrings Out

Dear Delyara, Usually there’s a sequence to evening. Coat, shoes, earrings, bra, hair up, some gradual return from public woman back into the private tired person underneath. Today I skipped the sequence. I undid the thing that was hurting first. The relief was immediate and almost emotional. I think women carry so many little physical discomforts without naming them properly because there is always something bigger to think about. Then one moment of release can feel like a private kindness the world did not particularly intend but the body receives with gratitude anyway. I stood there in the bedroom half dressed and felt more human than I had all afternoon. That says enough.
