I Took the Better Seat
Dear Delyara, In the waiting room, there was one comfortable chair left and one awkward one in the corner. My old instinct was immediate: take the less comfortable one, make room, be easy, be little, act as if comfort belongs more naturally to other people. This time, I didn’t. I took the better seat. And while I sat there, I realised how often self-esteem is not built in speeches or therapy language, but in these tiny bodily permissions — to be comfortable, to take up reasonable space, to stop assuming somebody else’s ease should come before your own by default. That chair taught me more than it should have.
