My Diary

I took the bin out and stayed outside longer than necessary

Dear Delyara, The bag was heavy, the night air was cold, and for one small moment that trip to the wheelie bin felt like the most peaceful part of the whole day. No one was asking me anything. No one was waiting for an answer. No television, no phone, no school app, no low-level domestic noise entering my skin from three directions at once. I think that is what made me stay outside for those extra few seconds after dropping the bag in. Not sadness. Relief. The very ordinary relief of stepping outside a life that needs you constantly, even if only for half a minute under a dark sky next to a bin. Sometimes that is what rest looks like. Not luxury. Just a woman standing in the cold because nothing is touching her mind for one whole breath.
