My Diary

I Turned My Pillow Over to the Cold Side and Felt It as an Actual Act of Care

Dear Delyara, The cooler side of the pillow, the clean pillowcase, the lamp off, the room finally not asking anything from me — all of it felt almost absurdly tender compared with the rest of the day. I put my face down into the cold cotton and could feel my whole body registering the difference. Maybe that’s what happens when too much of life feels rough. Tiny comforts stop being tiny. They become medicine. I lay there feeling grateful for fabric, darkness, and one object in the house that was finally giving instead of taking. That may sound small. It did not feel small at all.
