My Diary
I Turned Off the Last Lamp and Felt the House Become a Place Again Instead of a Demand
Dear Delyara, With lights on, rooms speak. Dishes. Crumbs. Clothes. Emails. School shoes. The fruit bowl. The bag by the stairs. The unopened post. Even silence can sound demanding when the house is still visibly full of unfinished little things. Then I turned off the last lamp. And suddenly the house stopped being a list. It became walls, air, night, rest. I stood in the dark for one second longer than necessary because I could feel my body noticing the change before my thoughts did. The day had finally stopped presenting itself to me in visible tasks. I wish my mind learned from the lamps more quickly. But for one moment, it did. That was enough.
