My Diary

I turned the kitchen light off and felt the whole room finally stop talking to me

Dear Delyara, While the light is on, the room keeps speaking. The dishes. The counters. Tomorrow’s lunch. The forgotten cup. The fruit. The milk. The floor. The form. The thing to remember. The thing to wash. The thing still not done. Even when no one else is in there, the room itself carries demand. Then I switched the light off. And suddenly it was only a room again. Quiet. Dark. Not asking. That gave me a strange amount of relief. I think I need more places in my life to stop speaking to me before sleep.
