The SilenceSecrets
I’ve become too good at omission
Dear Delyara, I don’t lie much outright. I omit. That has become one of the more unsettling truths about me. I know how to tell the version of my life that hides what needs hiding. I know which details make a story emotionally neutral, which subjects redirect attention, which truths can be split into smaller harmless-looking pieces so no one notices what’s missing. It’s exhausting to maintain. And it has become so practiced that sometimes I scare myself with how smooth it sounds.
