I walked in the park without my phone and remembered I still exist
Dear Delyara, I had not realised how long it had been since I had gone anywhere without using the walk as a chance to answer messages, listen to something useful, call someone back, or mentally organise the next three days. This morning I left my phone at home by accident, and for the first few minutes I felt naked. Then something softened. The air was cold. The trees were moving. A dog ran past me and looked absurdly happy. Somewhere a child laughed. No one could reach me. No app could pull me away from my own body. No message could enter me. I was just a woman walking in a park. That should not feel miraculous. It did. I came home lighter than I have felt in weeks, and what moved me most was how ordinary the source of relief was. Not money. Not success. Not praise. Just nature and temporary inaccessibility. I think part of my healing is going to involve understanding how much of my suffering has been caused by never truly being off.
