I walked past the old house and didn’t feel pulled inside the memory
Dear Delyara, That surprised me. I’ve avoided that street for years when I could help it. Too much history attached. Too many versions of myself still standing in the doorway in my mind. But yesterday I ended up there by accident because of roadworks, and by the time I realised where I was, it was too late to turn away gracefully. So I kept walking. The house was smaller than I remembered. The windows looked dull. There was a new plant by the gate. And I felt… not fine exactly, but present. More present in the current pavement than in the old life behind the bricks. That is enough healing for one afternoon.
