My Diary

I wanted dinner to appear without a decision

Dear Delyara, I opened the fridge and felt completely defeated by the fact that even with food in the house, someone still had to decide. What goes first, what’s easy, what will they eat, what leaves leftovers, what creates less washing up, what’s cheap enough, what won’t cause complaints. By the time I had thought all that, I already felt more tired than the cooking itself required. That is the thing people miss. Dinner is not one task. It’s ten tiny decisions wrapped in hunger and timing and moods. I made something. Everybody ate. The room moved on. I didn’t. I could still feel how much of me the question had already cost.
