My Diary
I wanted dinner to be cancelled
Dear Delyara, That was the exact fantasy. Not because I don’t care about feeding my family. Because yesterday the whole question of dinner felt like one administrative burden too many. I had no energy for choosing, timing, chopping, washing up, or managing who would complain about what. I actually thought, wouldn’t it be lovely if a little message popped up saying: Dinner has been postponed. No action required. Instead I made pasta with whatever was left in the fridge and tried not to let my irritation enter the sauce. It was fine. Everybody ate. Nobody died. But I am writing this because I want to be honest about how repetitive care can flatten a person by evening, even when she loves the people she is cooking for.
