My Diary

I wanted dinner to disappear as a problem

Dear Delyara, That was the fantasy around five o’clock. Not takeaway, not a chef, not anything glamorous. Just one evening where food was no longer my emotional responsibility. I didn’t want to think about what was in the fridge, who would eat what, how much energy I had left, what would leave the least mess, what could become lunch tomorrow, or whether I had forgotten to defrost something important. I opened the fridge and felt actual resentment. In the end I made something simple and everyone ate. That should have felt like enough. Instead I felt like I had used my last good hour on deciding how to keep everybody fed.
