My Diary
I wanted one conversation with no task hidden inside it
Dear Delyara, That was the exact hunger by the end of the day. No “while you’re there.” No “before tomorrow.” No “can you just.” No “did you remember.” No “we need to sort.” No “what’s the plan.” I was not hungry for more talking. I was hungry for language that didn’t immediately pull work out of my body. I don’t think I realised until recently how much of domestic conversation is functional. Loving, yes. Necessary, yes. But functional. And when the day has already taken too much, every practical sentence starts landing like another hand on the shoulder. I wanted one sentence that simply sat beside me. Yesterday, I didn’t get it.
