My Diary

I wanted one evening where no one asked me to remember anything

Dear Delyara, No forms. No dates. No passwords. No shopping list. No reminder about Friday. No “don’t let me forget.” No “can you just remember.” I think being the memory of the household is one of the quietest drains on my life. It doesn’t look like labour because nothing is visibly moving. But inside, there is a constant invisible shelf system where everything sits waiting for me to retrieve it at the right moment. Tonight I wanted that shelf system to close for one hour. Just one. Instead I added milk to the list, found the login code, reminded somebody about tomorrow, and carried on. I know this is ordinary. That doesn’t make it light.
