My Diary
I wanted one minute where I was not performing adulthood
Dear Delyara, There are times when adulthood feels less like maturity and more like a continuous performance of holding things together. Being responsible. Being composed. Being reasonable. Making plans. Remembering details. Acting like you know what to do next even when what you really want is for someone else to temporarily become the adult in the room. Tonight I wanted one minute where none of that applied to me. Just one minute of not managing. I didn’t get exactly that. But I got close enough by sitting on the floor for a while and not doing anything useful. It helped more than it should have.
