My Diary
I wanted one room in the house that didn’t need me
Dear Delyara, Not emotionally. Not practically. Not as the one who notices, answers, fixes, reminds, or sorts. I walked from room to room last night and every single one had some low-level claim on me. A towel on the floor, a charger to find, a lunchbox to wash, a message to answer, a pile of clothes to fold, a form to sign, a child calling from upstairs, a light left on. I know this is family life. I also know it can feel relentless. There are evenings when I don’t want silence as much as I want non-obligation. Last night was one of them.
