My Diary

I wanted someone else to be in charge of tomorrow for once

Dear Delyara, Not a holiday, not a new house, not a different life. Just one ordinary tomorrow already held in someone else’s head. Someone else remembering the lunchboxes, the weather, the timings, the low milk, the PE kit, the school money, the route, the messages, the one thing that must not be forgotten. I think what I’m tired of is not labour itself. It’s anticipatory labour. The mental pre-loading of life. By bedtime, tomorrow had already begun arranging itself in me like furniture I didn’t ask to carry upstairs. It would have felt like such luxury to hand the whole thing over and simply wake up into a day someone else had mentally unpacked. That did not happen. Still, the wanting felt honest enough to write down.
