My Diary
I wanted someone else to hear the machine beep
Dear Delyara, The washing machine finishes, and somehow the responsibility moves straight through the walls and into my body. The same with the tumble dryer, the oven timer, the school app, the kettle, anything that signals the next small domestic step. Last night it beeped and I stayed still for a second just to see if anyone else would react. No one did. Of course I got up. Of course I moved the washing. But the sadness stayed with me. Not because nobody helped. Because the default still feels so automatic. The machine speaks, and my nervous system answers.
