My Diary
I wanted someone to ask me less, not more
Dear Delyara, Sometimes care looks like questions. Sometimes it looks like fewer questions. Today I wanted the second kind. I didn’t want to explain my mood, or unpack the day, or be given an opening I wasn’t ready to walk through. I wanted someone to sense that I was low-capacity and make the emotional room smaller, gentler, less demanding. I think we talk so much about being asked the right questions that we forget how healing it can be when someone knows not to ask one more thing. That would have felt like love to me today.
