My Diary
I wanted someone to notice without me performing the clue
Dear Delyara, Not mind-reading. Just sensitivity. I didn’t want to say, “I’m struggling a bit,” in the polished, socially acceptable way I usually do when I’m trying to give other people permission to care. I wanted someone to catch it in the pause, in the flatter voice, in the fact that I answered slightly slower than usual. No one did. I’m not angry about that. People are carrying their own lives. Still, it made me realize how often I quietly hope I won’t have to package my own need before it becomes visible. That hope rarely gets met. And I think that is one of the reasons I get tired in the particular way I do.
