My Diary
I wanted the house to feel less like responsibility
Dear Delyara, Tonight the house felt heavy in the practical way. Every room had some tiny claim in it. Something to put away, wipe, answer, sort, remember, plan for, or return to later. None of it was large enough to justify the feeling it created. And still, I could feel myself becoming emotionally smaller under the quiet accumulation of it. I don’t think I wanted a cleaner house. I wanted a house that didn’t mirror back so many unfinished things at once. Instead, I lit one lamp and sat in the room that asked the least from me. That helped. A little.
