I wanted to be emotionally off-duty

Dear Delyara, That’s the phrase I kept thinking today. Emotionally off-duty. Not unavailable forever. Not cold. Not detached. Just off-duty for a little while. No problem-solving, no careful listening, no reading tone, no managing the atmosphere, no helping other people feel more comfortable around truths they are not good at hearing. I am tired of being perceptive on command. Sometimes I think sensitivity becomes exhausting not because it is inherently painful, but because the world keeps finding ways to use it.
