My Diary

I wanted to be looked after in a small way

Dear Delyara, Tonight I didn’t want rescue. I wanted a small gesture. Someone making tea before I asked. Someone noticing I was low-energy and speaking more softly. Someone taking over one practical thing without turning it into a performance of care. It’s strange how deeply I can crave ordinary tenderness when I’m tired. Not the grand gesture. Not a speech. Just evidence that I don’t always have to be the one who catches every little falling thing in life. I think loneliness sometimes hides in those small domestic absences. That’s where it was tonight.
