My Diary

I wanted to call in emotionally sick

Dear Delyara, I know there isn’t really a socially accepted version of that. You can call in with a fever, with flu, with vomiting, with something visible and medically tidy. But some days the thing that feels impossible is not movement. It’s interaction. Tone. Smiling. Responding. Carrying yourself through a room while the inside of you feels bruised and overused. Yesterday was one of those days. I still went. I still did it. I just kept thinking all morning that if there were any honesty in the world, there would be days where a person could say, “I am not well enough emotionally to keep performing function for eight hours,” and that would count as real. It would have counted yesterday.
