My Diary
I wanted to stop being reachable
Dear Delyara, By that time I had already been reached enough. Work had reached me, the school had reached me, the house had reached me, my husband had reached me, the children had reached me, the family group chat had reached me, and still the phone sat there on the counter like a small glowing threat that more could arrive at any minute. I put it face down. I still felt it in my body. That’s the strangest thing about modern life to me. Access remains inside you even after the device is quiet. The expectation doesn’t switch off just because the screen does. I miss the feeling of being truly unavailable. Not rude. Unavailable.
