My Diary

I wanted to throw my phone into the garden and then I had to laugh

Dear Delyara, Because really, what else can you do at that point? It was one of those evenings where everything came through the phone at once. School reminder, work email, family message, bank notification, one friend checking in, another friend sending something funny I didn’t have energy to answer properly, then a calendar alert about something I already knew but did not need emotionally confirmed at 7:12 p.m. I looked at the screen and felt such an intense wish to remove myself from all systems that I genuinely imagined opening the back door and tossing the thing onto the grass. I didn’t. I put it face down instead. But I think that fantasy told the truth. I wasn’t angry at the device. I was angry at being reachable from too many directions at once. There are evenings when the modern world feels less like connection and more like being nibbled to death by access.
