My Diary
I was physically home but emotionally still at work until almost bedtime
Dear Delyara, I had left the building. I had driven home. I had made dinner, answered questions, put laundry away, and listened to my daughter describe something unfair that happened at school. And yet part of me was still back in the office replaying a conversation with a manager whose tone I didn’t like and whose words kept reorganising themselves in my head no matter how many domestic tasks I tried to stack on top of them. By bedtime, I felt guilty for how unavailable I had been in ways nobody but me would probably detect clearly. Sometimes work comes home not in emails or calls, but in residue. That was the whole evening.
