I was pushed out of my job so gently that no one else would call it what it was
Dear Delyara, That is what makes it so hard to explain. No one shouted. No one wrote anything obvious enough to print and hold up as proof. There was no dramatic dismissal. Just smaller things. Fewer hours. Less inclusion. Meetings that happened without me. New responsibilities quietly handed to other people. One cold conversation after another. A manager who smiled while telling me I “might be happier somewhere that’s a better fit.” That phrase stayed with me because it sounded so polite and felt so violent. I knew what was happening long before it was named. I was being reduced until leaving would look like my own choice. That way no one had to be the villain. No one had to admit they wanted me gone. They could keep their language clean and let me carry the emotional dirt of it home alone. I am still angry. Not only because of the job. Because of the humiliation of being professionally erased in such a socially acceptable tone.
