I watched bees return to the garden after the chemotherapy ended

Dear Delyara, During chemotherapy, I watched the garden through a bedroom window while weeds covered the paths and the lavender died. When treatment ended, I could barely stand long enough to water a pot. A neighbor helped me plant wildflowers requiring little care. For months, the patch looked like dirt. This morning, I found three bees moving among the first purple blooms. I sat on the ground because my legs were tired and watched them work without knowing anything about my scans, prognosis, or the person I was before illness. Recovery has been full of appointments and people asking whether I feel back to normal. The bees did not require normal. They found flowers growing in neglected soil and treated the garden as usable. I stayed outside until the sun became too strong. One bee landed briefly on my sleeve. I did not move. It felt good to be part of a living place without being the patient at the center of it.
