My Diary

I watched my daughter walk into school without looking back

Dear Delyara, She used to turn around twice. Sometimes three times. One last wave, one last check that I was still there, one last glance before she disappeared into the building. Now she just goes. I know that is healthy. I know that is what growing up looks like. Still, I sat there in the car with my hands on the steering wheel and felt that small private grief mothers are expected to absorb quietly — the pain of watching independence arrive in all the places you once used to be needed. I drove away proud of her. And lonelier than the morning deserved.
