My Diary

I watched my husband put the bins out and felt grateful and sad at the same time

Dear Delyara, Grateful because I didn’t have to do it. Sad because that level of help felt disproportionately moving. I don’t say that to be unfair to him. I say it because it made something obvious visible: how little support it can take to make an overused woman feel emotional. One ordinary task lifted from my shoulders, and suddenly I’m standing in the kitchen almost in tears because my body was more tired than I had admitted even to myself. It’s not always the big gestures that reveal the truth. Sometimes it’s just the bins.
