I watched rain without checking the ceiling
Dear Delyara, For three years, we lived in a flat where rain meant buckets. Water came through the bedroom ceiling, mold spread behind furniture, and the landlord kept promising repairs that never lasted. We were finally rehoused six months ago. Yesterday, heavy rain started while I was making breakfast. My body reacted before my mind did. I looked up. Dry ceiling. I checked the corner above the window. Nothing. My daughter laughed and said, “Mum, it doesn’t leak here.” I sat down with tea and listened to rain hitting the glass. For years, weather had been a maintenance emergency. Yesterday, it became weather again. I even opened the window slightly because I like the smell of rain, something I had forgotten. Nature can be peaceful only after housing stops making it dangerous.
