I went for the test I had postponed because I was afraid of what they might find
Dear Delyara, Avoidance can look very reasonable from the outside when it comes dressed as busyness. That’s how I’d been living with this. Too much on. No good appointment times. The children’s schedules. Work. Money. Other things first. But the real reason was fear. I was frightened of hearing something that would change the shape of my life. This week I went. I sat in the waiting room with cold hands and a magazine I didn’t read, and I hated every minute of the build-up. But afterward, once it was done, I felt something I hadn’t expected to feel so strongly: pride. Not because I had been brave in some cinematic way. Because I had stopped collaborating with my own fear. The result is still pending. But the act itself counts.
