My Diary

I went to bed feeling like a route through other people’s lives

Dear Delyara, Children’s needs passed through me. Work passed through me. Dinner passed through me. The school passed through me. The house passed through me. One friend’s sadness passed through me. My husband’s practical questions passed through me. Tomorrow passed through me before today was even allowed to finish. By the time I got into bed, I didn’t feel dramatic. I felt used up by function. That’s the best way I can say it. I felt like a route. Like a channel. Like a corridor in a busy building that everything had walked through all day while no one stopped long enough to ask how the corridor itself was holding up.
