My Diary

I went upstairs early and did not apologise for it this time

Dear Delyara, That feels worth writing down. Normally if I remove myself from the evening before everyone else is “done,” I do it with explanation, apology, reassurance, extra softness. “I’m just tired,” “I’ll be back down in a minute,” “I’m not in a mood,” “Sorry, I just need…” Last night I simply said, “I’m going up. I need some quiet.” Then I went. The children were fine. My husband was fine. The world did not tilt because I left the room before I was completely emptied by it. That should be obvious, and yet it still felt like a small revolution in my body. Maybe recovery begins with smaller exits taken more honestly.
