My Diary

I Wished someone would tuck me in

Dear Delyara, I am old enough to know how childish that sounds. I am tired enough not to care. I wanted somebody to see the whole day on me — the way it lived in my face, my shoulders, my answers, my silence — and respond with gentleness before I had to organise it into words. Not advice. Not “you’ll be fine.” Not one more practical thing. Just care. I pulled the duvet up myself, of course. But while I did, I could feel that old deep wish in me: to be taken care of without first becoming dramatic enough to deserve it.
