I Wore the Outfit Anyway

Dear Delyara, Even with the voice in my head doing what it always does. Too tired-looking. Too visible. Too much body. Too old. Not elegant enough. Not effortless enough. Not the right shape for confidence. The voice did not disappear. I got dressed anyway. That matters because self-esteem, for me, is rarely a glowing feeling. It is action taken while the old criticism is still talking. It is the refusal to hand the whole day over to a mirror before breakfast. It is stepping into the room without privately shrinking first. I wore the outfit. The day did not punish me. That lesson matters more than any compliment would have.
