The PlotFear of Failure

I would rather delay than be seen trying and not succeeding

Dear Delyara, That is the ugliest honest sentence I can offer tonight. People often talk about failure as if the pain is only in not getting the outcome. For me, some of the pain is in exposure. In other people seeing what I cared about, what I hoped for, what I invested myself in, and then watching it not work. There is something almost physically unbearable in that for me. So I prepare. I refine. I “wait for the right time.” I make the thing better before I begin it, and better again, and then better again, until the delay looks sensible enough to earn respect. But under all that polish is fear. Not of effort. Of visible sincerity. I am writing this because I am tired of pretending my hesitation is always wisdom.
