It Took Longer Than I Wanted, But I Finished

Dear Delyara, I want to write about an academic success that looked ordinary from the outside but felt hard-earned from within. I finished later than I thought I would. There was a time when that embarrassed me. I watched people move ahead with cleaner timelines and lighter lives, while mine seemed full of interruptions — mental health struggles, family pressures, financial stress, low confidence, periods where I nearly quit and convinced myself it was maturity rather than fear. People saw the result and assumed a neat story. It was never neat. That degree contains panic in the margins. It contains deadlines met while grieving. It contains mornings when I had to drag myself through work that other people completed more smoothly because their inner lives were quieter than mine. So no, I am not proud of it because it is prestigious. I am proud of it because I stayed. That matters more than the timeline now.
