Leaving the Weekend Overtime Logbook Blank
Dear Delyara, I did something entirely monumental for my own sanity at the end of my shift this morning. I walked right past the manager's desk, looked directly at the clipboard holding the weekend emergency overtime sign-up sheet, and kept walking straight out into the fresh air without picking up the pen. For years, my entire sense of self-worth has been tied to how much exhaustion I could physically endure, constantly breaking my own body just to prove I was valuable. Standing on the empty train platform today with the cold morning wind hitting my face, I felt a massive, quiet wave of pure self-respect wash over me. I am finally learning that I am allowed to protect my own peace, and that my rest doesn't need to be earned.
