Love Feels Different When It Is Safe
Dear Delyara, I did not know love could feel quiet. Not boring. Not empty. Quiet. Before this relationship, I thought love was supposed to make me anxious. I thought intensity meant depth. I thought unpredictability meant chemistry. I confused obsession with closeness because chaos was familiar to me. Then I met someone who did not make me guess. Someone who answered clearly. Someone who did not punish vulnerability. Someone who did not make me earn kindness by becoming smaller. Someone whose consistency felt almost suspicious at first because my nervous system had been trained to trust turbulence more than peace. It took me a while to understand that safety is not the absence of passion. Sometimes it is the highest form of it. I am grateful for this kind of love not because it is perfect, but because it is clean. It does not ask me to betray myself in order to keep it. It lets me exhale. And after the relationships I’ve known before, that feels sacred.
