The SilenceTrauma

My body still reacts before I can explain anything

Dear Delyara, Sometimes I think trauma lives most obviously in timing. The body reacts first. The mind explains later. A tone shifts, a room changes, a sound lands too hard, and suddenly something in me is already elsewhere. My shoulders rise, my breath shortens, my voice changes, and only after that do I begin trying to understand why. That sequence makes me feel less in control than I want to be. But it is honest. Trauma is not always memory in neat narrative form. Sometimes it is a body moving before the story catches up.
