My child came back to tell me

Dear Delyara, After saying “nothing” earlier. After the quick answer and the face that told me more than the answer did. Later, when the house was softer and the body had had time to settle, the truth came. That is one of the most moving things in my life now. Not that my children need me. That they still choose me when something hurts. I listened carefully and felt that old ache of motherhood again — the pain of what they carry, the gratitude that they still bring it here. I don’t think I will ever stop being undone by that.
