My Child Reached for My Hand in Public Without Thinking About It and I Felt More Loved
Dear Delyara, It was automatic. That’s what moved me. We were crossing a car park, and without even looking properly, my child reached back for my hand in that absent, trusting way children do when the bond still lives in the body before thought. No request. No performance. No “Mum, can you.” Just instinct. I took the hand and felt tears rise so suddenly it surprised me. Because that kind of trust is temporary. And because on a hard week, one unconscious act of being needed in love rather than in labour can break a tired mother open in the gentlest way. I kept walking. Said nothing. Still, it stayed with me all day.
