My Child Told Me the Truth Without Being Pushed

Dear Delyara, The face had already told me something was wrong. The shorter answers too. Still, I waited. And later, when the moment was softer and the room safer, the truth came out without me having to drag it into the light. That felt like grace. Because children do not owe us full access to every hurt. When they choose to bring it, that is trust. And trust from a child is one of the holiest ordinary things I know. I listened carefully. Then, after they went upstairs, I stood alone in the kitchen and felt grateful in a way that almost hurt.
