My daughter has told her whole class I am writing a book

Dear Delyara, I have been writing a novel for six years. Hardly anyone knew because I was afraid of becoming one of those people who talks about writing without ever finishing anything. Then my nine-year-old daughter found the manuscript on my laptop and announced at school that her mother is “an author.” Her teacher asked if I would visit the class when the book comes out. It is not coming out. Not yet. Maybe never. I have submitted it to agents and received twelve rejections. My daughter does not understand that. She tells people the book is being “checked by publishers.” Every time she says it proudly, I want to hide. I know her belief should encourage me. Instead, it has made failure public in advance. Yesterday, she drew a fake book cover with my name in huge letters and taped it above my desk. I cried after she went to bed. I want to finish for myself. I also desperately do not want to become the first person who teaches my daughter that believing in someone does not mean the world will agree.
